Coronal Polishing for Dental Assistants

We’re excited to announce the launch of our Coronal Polishing Certification Course, designed specifically for dental assistants who are ready to advance their clinical skills and expand their scope of practice.

This comprehensive continuing education course provides hands-on training in the techniques and principles of coronal polishing, including patient preparation, infection control procedures, stain identification, and proper polishing methods. The course is taught by our Clinical Operations Manager and Lead Restorative Assistant, Rian. She has been working as a Dental Assistant since 2003, Practicing Restorative Dentistry since 2013, and has experience as a Dental Assisting Program Director at Southwest Oregon Community College and Adjunct Dental Assisting Instructor at UAF. She joined Fairbanks Dental Center in 2022, and we are very excited she is here and helping us offer this amazing continuing education opportunity to the community!

Community Engagement Events

Fairbanks Dental Center loves community engagement because it allows us to connect with the people we serve beyond the walls of the practice. We believe that oral health is part of a bigger picture, and being active in local events, schools, and organizations helps us support that whole-person approach. Giving back, educating, and showing up for our neighbors strengthens the bond we share with our community and reflects the values we hold as a team. It’s our way of investing in the well-being of the place we call home—and the people who make it special.

At Fairbanks Dental Center we like to have fun! On Halloween we hand out CANDY! YES! CANDY! And toothbrushes of course! Dr. Weis and two of our assistants Rian and Rachel dressed up as their favorite Harry Potter Characters, held a duel with tooth brushes and made sure T-Rex had a new brush to keep his chompers squeaky clean!

-October 2023-

March is Dental Hygiene Awareness month and Dr. Weis and our clinical manager Rian spent a few days with the amazing kids and staff at Denali Elementary. They read the BEST book “Tooth Poop" to teach the kids about plaque and then taught them how to floss using egg cartons, play-doh and yarn! Dr. Weis made sure to inspect everyone’s work with his Lupes! We handed out toothbrushes, floss and tooth paste! What fun it was!!!

-March 2023-

Halloween 2024 brought a whole Alien Invasion to Fairbanks Dental Center, complete with an astronaut and men in black to keep the aliens in check! We handed out over 350 tooth brushes, tooth paste and floss, along with over 20 pounds of sweet treats. We love to have fun, and we love to support our local community with great little events like this! Be sure to stop by the neighborhood and see what we’re up to next Halloween!

Another great year of with the community at Denali Elementary, teaching about dental anatomy! The students learned about what give teeth the ability to feel hot, cold and temperature, then applied their education to Dental anatomy models made from salt dough! We are always excited to visit the kids, where we learn just as much from them as they do from us!

-March 2025-

Fairbanks Dental Center had the wonderful opportunity to participate in helping bring oodles of dental goodies to the community at Summit Church as we participated in the Worlds Biggest Backpack event! This amazing event offers free school supplies and access to many community partners in and around Fairbanks and North Pole. We handed out prizes and temporary tattoos and had so much fun talking with everyone that stopped by!

The Holidays are so much fun for us, but Halloween is our favorite at Fairbanks Dental Center! 2025 was warm, there was rain and snow, but the vibe was amazing! We love being here for our community, helping keep smiles healthy and happy with tooth brush kits, and tummies full of peanut butter cups and Snickers! We are already planning our shenanigans for next Halloween!!!
